| 1 |
The competition is organised by the Jan Vermulst Foundation of the Netherlands in collaboration with the choir organisation Europa Cantat and Annie Bank music publishers. |
| 2 |
Participating composers may submit works of up to four minutes length, written such that a simple adaptation or ossia part enables them to be performed either by a four-part mixed voice choir or by a four-part male or female choir. Compositions must be within the reach of average amateur choirs and attractive enough for frequent performance. The choice of style is free, although popular repertoire (close harmony, vocal jazz, pop etc.) is excluded. |
| 3 |
Texts must be in English, French, German, Spanish or Latin. Only complete full scores may be submitted. |
| 4 |
Only entirely original compositions to new texts (except Latin) will be considered. Entries may not have been previously performed, published or submitted at competitions, and must be free of copyright. |
| 5 |
The subject matter of the text is: Rainbow. |
| 6 |
The Foundation will award 1000 Euro for the Jan Vermulst Prize and 500 Euro for the Audience Prize. Europa Cantat will award the Noël Minet Foundation Prize of 250 Euro for the best composition by a composer up to and including the age of 25. |
| 7 |
Entries will be judged by a jury consisting of Theodora Pavlovitch (Bulgaria), Dan-Olof Stenlund (Sweden) and Hansruedi Kämpfen (Switzerland) on behalf of Europa Cantat, and Erik Van Nevel (Belgium) and Hans Leenders (Netherlands) on behalf of the Jan Vermulst Foundation. The jury will nominate four compositions. The composers of the nominated works are expected to be available during Europa Cantat XV (18 to 27 July 2003) in Barcelona on 21 and 22 July 2003 to assist preparation of the pieces by two choirs. On the evening of the second day these choirs will perform all four works and the jury will choose the winning composition(s). The Jan Vermulst Foundation will give each nominated composer an allowance of 1000 Euro towards participation, travel and accommodation. The decision of the jury is binding; any correspondence will be refused. If the jury considers the entries to be unsatisfactory it reserves the right not to award all available prizes. |
| 8 |
The prize-winning works will be published by Annie Bank music publishers. By submitting entries competitors commit themselves to a contract with Annie Bank publishers: prizewinners will receive 10% of net sales (excl. VAT) on any second or third impression. The prize money is viewed as payment for a first impression of 1000 copies. |
