George Bretz

George Bretz was born on 23 August 1949 in The Hague, Holland. He studied at the Alkmaar Academy of Music and the Sweelinck Academy of Music (Amsterdam). He has worked as a choir conductor, singer, lecturer and composer/arranger.

His composition, 'Tonen 2000' for a cappella mixed choir won the 1st prize in the composition competition and was the compulsory work in the chamber choir competition in the Tonen 2000 festival, in Monster, the Netherlands.

Another recent prize-winning composition is Psalm 131, also for a cappella choir. These Dutch language works are of a reasonably high level of difficulty, are extremely easy on the ear and both last approximately 5 to 6 minutes.
